After some deliberation, we decided to refinish the hardwood floors in the nursery rather than replacing the carpet, which was really dingy and dirty. When we pulled back the carpet, the hardwood didn't look much better. But they turned out beautifully! And the guy ended up charging us less than his estimate, which never happens.
Here's what the floor looked like before. There was some water damage, and after the refinishing guy was done, he admitted he had his doubts going in that it would refinish as well as it did. He definitely didn't share that with us when he came out to do the estimate, though!
Luckily, the first day of sanding got rid of most of the discoloration and water spots, and he also fixed a couple of warped boards.
He matched the stain to the wood in the rest of the house ...
And here's the finished room! I'm very, very happy with the floors, and glad we went ahead and did it.
Coming in the next few days ... more nursery pictures, with crib and lots more baby stuff!
